Manufacturing Engineering Program Outcomes

The following are the fourteen program outcomes for the Bachelor of Science of Manufacturing Engineering degree:

Graduates of the Manufacturing Engineering program must have:

  1. the ability to apply comprehensive knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering science to manufacturing engineering.
  2. the ability to perform engineering analysis by designing and conducting appropriate experiments and analyzing and interpreting results.
  3. the ability to design products, equipment, tooling and environment for manufacturing systems.
  4. the ability to function effectively in team or group setting.
  5. the ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  6. the ability to practice engineering profession at highest ethical standards.
  7. the ability to communicate effectively.
  8. the ability to implement technology with an awareness of important social issues and understand the impact of engineering solution in a global and societal context.
  9. the ability to understand and recognize the need to engage in lifelong learning.
  10. the ability to understand contemporary issues and appreciate how these issues provide opportunities to create competitive advantage through manufacturing planning, strategy, and control.
  11. the ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
  12. an understanding of the behavior and properties of materials as they are altered and influenced by manufacturing processes.
  13. the ability to use statistics and calculus to analyze and control manufacturing operations.
  14. the ability to measure manufacturing process variables in a manufacturing laboratory and make technical inference about the process.

The program outcomes are derived from the program objectives and the University´s and Department mission. The implementation of these desired outcomes is accomplished through the students´ four-year immersion in the curriculum and in extracurricular activities. The Computer Engineering Program at VSU supports these learning outcomes by offering a complete curriculum of computer engineering courses. In addition to these courses, students have many opportunities to participate in a variety of activities offered by the program and the Department of Engineering and Technology.
